The Meanest Comments About Kylie's Makeup Brushes

In case you're hearing/reading about the Kylie makeup brush scandal of 2017 for the first time, allow me to recap what TF is going on: Kylie Jenner's been launching a shit ton of products lately, including concealers, stick lipsticks, another eye shadow palette, and the most buzzy item of the moment: A full, 16-piece set of makeup brushes, include real (not synthetic) hair, which means they cost $360. Yes, $360.

Kylie announced the drop of her brand new brushes last Friday, showing the entire collection and mapping out the price for each brush.

And that's when shit hit the fan/people took to social media to rip her a new one over the $price$. And these critics aren't just any dummies on social media - they're famous make up artists and Instagram influencers. Check it out:

1. James Charles called her out, tweeting:

2. Manny "MUA" Gutierrez also chimed in with his YouTube review, keeping it fair yet honest: "I was taken aback, I'm not going to lie - I saw that [the price] and thought, oh, baby, whatcha doin? Like, I was truly shook from the bottom of my fucking heart." He went on to say, "there's no denying that they feel nice, but there's shedding - I just found, like, two bristles on my face." He concluded by asking: "Could you fucking fathom spending $400 on a brush set? I really cannot, and it's frustrating for me because she puts her name on her products and that's why they sell so well. Do these products work well? Yes, they do, but are they worth $360? No, they're not."

3. Jeffree Star also shared his opinions, saying: "You know me, I'm always down to be brutally honest. I don't know about other people on YouTube, but I do know that I am one of the only people who has never been paid to say that I like something and I am someone who just keeps it 100% blunt. I don't give a fuck if you're famous, I don't give a fuck if your brands in the drugstore." He had a lot more to say here, but then concluded by saying: "This brush set with this cheap old vegan, aluminum fucking silver, is just not worth the price point. I definitely think you're paying for a over-hyped celebrity name."

4. Blogger Laura Lee also weighed in: "This is the cheapest brush bag I've ever felt... This looks like it came out of the Dollar Tree; it should be so much nicer for the price." She went on to say, "the brush hairs feel similar to synthetic brush hairs even though they're not, they feel about the same."

5. As did MakeupShayla, saying: "The quality is there. i feel like these are actually really good quality brushes, they're just too expensive. "If she would've added, I would say 15 more [brushes], I would say it was worth it." But her tune soon changed after giving the brushes a good cleaning: "I just washed the brushes. Something weird happened. I don't know if it's because I used soap. It got a little like, frayed." After they dried... "The brushes are looking a little cray cray. They just got a little big."

Kylie responded last Saturday, saying: "I have developed for you guys the most amazing luxury brushes ever. I am very excited! Real brushes don’t compare to synthetic brushes. Different performance/quality/everything. I am 100% down to do an entire synthetic line in the future which will ultimately be cheaper."

She also researched the prices of similar brushes: "I always fight for the lowest price on all my products. Here are some other real brush lines for reference."

And then, the Internet clapped back:

6. Jeffree Star immediately addressed her price comparison to Kevyn Aucoin in his YouTube video, saying: "A little history lesson, Kevyn Aucoin was an iconic makeup artist in the '90s. He put out books that have changed the entire makeup game and he is an iconic legend. So I am a little peeved that someone who has had a makeup line for such a short amount of time is comparing themselves to an iconic legend. Girl, you better chill."
