Meet the Victoria’s Secret Angels’ Go-to, Miracle-Working Dermatologist

I am in Paris to attend the Victoria’s Secret show, go backstage and interview the “Angels,” and so naturally, trying to look half-decent is on my mind. However, when you have only slept a few hours (on a plane!), drank more red wine than you should have, and are suffering from dehydration, being surrounded by these weird creatures who look incredible on a normal day is not great for one’s confidence. So when I am offered a chance to meet these girls’ secret weapon, the dermatologist Dr. David Colbert, I say “Oui, merci ,” immediately. After all, the man is helping Lily Aldridge, Adriana Lima, Stella Maxwell, and Liu Wen get glowing skin.

Let me give you a little background on Dr. Colbert: He studied at the Faculté Libre de Médicine de Lille in France, got his degree from New York Medical College, and completed his dermatology residency at Columbia-Presbyterian Hospital in New York. Dr. Colbert is in Paris performing his new “runway facial” on the models. He also does the same facial for Hollywood stars during award season (Angelina Jolie has said his famous “triad facial” is like having raindrops on your face). So let’s get down to it. What, exactly, is the “runway facial”?

According to Dr. Colbert, the Runway Facial is unique in using more techniques and cutting-edge technology than you would usually encounter in a face-pampering session. “It stimulates blood flow with microdermabrasion,” Dr. Colbert says. “Then uses a laser to penetrate the epidermis down to the collagen.”

And why do models and Hollywood stars love it so much? Even though it’s doing a lot for your skin, it has no down time. You are runway or red-carpet ready immediately. Immediately!

To start, I was cleansed with Dr. Colbert’s “tone-control facial disc,” then he used the eTwo Sublime radio frequency treatment to lift and tone my skin and then the microdermabrasion was performed, which felt like a vacuum cleaner on my face. This exfoliates and removes all the dead cells on my skin which is much needed! Then came the laser treatment with an LED light, which felt slightly warm and made my skin tingle.

The last step was designed to calm everything down. It was a mask that cooled and healed my skin. Finally, my skin was sprayed with a calming hydration mist, moisturized, and finished off with a face oil. My skin had never looked so dewy and fresh. So, full of hope and confidence in my new skin, I actually went backstage directly without putting on any makeup, and felt OK in the company of all these genetic lottery winners! Success!
