- Meghan Markle was seen without her engagement ring, and only her wedding band, during an engagement with Prince Harry in London today.
- It's possible she opted out of wearing the engagement ring because her fingers are swelling from pregnancy. She's over seven months along.
- Kate Middleton was previously seen without her engagement ring in January 2018.
Meghan Markle was all dressed up in an embellished Erdem coat, Aquazzura pumps, and a Givenchy clutch for her engagement at Canada House with Prince Harry today, but one important accessory was missing: her engagement ring. Royal watchers on Twitter noticed that the Duchess of Sussex was only wearing her wedding band, a Welsh gold band from the jeweler Cleave and Company. Meanwhile her diamond engagement ring, which a couple of gems from the late Princess Diana, was not in sight. Was it being cleaned, perhaps?
Meghan was also just seen wearing it on Friday during her appearance at an International Women's Day panel.
Before you start speculating of any drama between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, there might be a practical reason behind the ring's absence: Meghan's pregnancy. It's common for women to remove rings during pregnancy if their fingers swell.
Sometimes, a pregnant woman's fingers can get swollen "to the point where wearing your rings is dangerous," Robin Elise Weiss, PhD-a doula, childbirth educator, and pregnancy book author-wrote for VeryWell Family. At times, rings may fit in the morning but are harder to remove later in the day. If that happens, Weiss suggests alternatives like putting the ring on a necklace, or wearing designs with breaks in the band, opting for larger sizes, or ditching rings altogether for the time being.
Is this why Meghan skipped wearing her famous piece of jewelry?

Meghan isn't the only royal to forgo the engagement ring for a public appearance; in January 2018, Kate Middleton was also seen only wearing her wedding band while visiting Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Although she was pregnant with Prince Louis at the time, she wasn't as far along in her pregnancy as Meghan is now (she's over seven months). Instead, the Duchess of Cambridge was following the hospital's policy on minimal jewelry, People reported at the time.
Meghan's engagement ring from Prince Harry features a large diamond from Botswana flanked by two smaller diamonds from Princess Diana's personal collection "to make sure she's with us on this crazy journey together," the Duke of Sussex revealed in their post-engagement interview back in 2017.
"It's so important to me to know that she's a part of this with us," Meghan said at the time.
Hopefully we'll see the duchess wear her brilliant rock again soon.
