The Queen and her new granddaughter-in-law, the newly named Duchess of Sussex, have been spending a lot of time together recently.

Meghan Markle made her first solo appearance with the monarch on Thursday in Cheshire, where they seemed to get along jolly well at a ceremony to open the Mersey Gateway Bridge, and a performance at a local theater, and lunch at the town hall.

The trip is a major step for the royals' relationship, and once the Duchess becomes familiar enough with Her Majesty, she will reportedly be able to take it to the next level and call the Queen by a nickname only a chosen few are allowed to use.

Majesty editor Ingrid Seward told Grazia that Markle can refer to the Queen as "Mama"-but only after a period of time in which she "gets to know her as Diana did."

Before then, Seward says the Duchess is still expected to curtsy and refer to the Queen as "Your Majesty." The next step would be "Ma'am," followed by the truly exclusive term for the royal, "Mama."

So while the Duchess might still be in the curtsying phase, the more events like yesterday's that she does, the closer it seems she'll get to being on pet-name terms with Britain's top monarch.
