Meghan Markle reportedly ‘begged’ Lizzie Cundy to help her meet a famous British man and then cut the TV presenter out of her life when she met Prince Harry.

The model and TV presenter claims she befriended the Duchess of Sussex, 37, after being asked to accompany her to a charity dinner in 2013. But the former Suits actress ‘ghosted’ her after she began dating Prince Harry.

Cundy, 50, reveals in her autobiography Tales From The Red Carpet: “We were having a girly chat and then she said, ‘Do you know any famous guys? I’m single and I really love English men’. So I said, ‘We’ll go out and find you someone’.”

It has just been revealed Markle exchanged private messages with Matt Cardle in 2015 asking to meet in person - only to be ‘ghosted’ herself by the former X Factor winner, when he met his current girlfriend.

Markle spent a lot of time in London following her split from first husband Trevor Engleson in August 2013.

Cundy claims she and the Duchess kept in touch, but when Markle met Prince Harry she stopped contacting her and Cundy was not invited to the wedding.

Cundy said: “Meghan’s so relaxed, she liked a drink, great fun.

“I remember her asking about my boys. She was very interested and asking lots of questions. Usually you find actresses just talk about themselves. She was really fun, really sweet. I liked her.”

She added: “I texted saying, ‘Oh my god, I heard about Harry’. And she was like, ‘Yeah I know. We’ll try and hook up’.”

“She was probably told by the Palace to end contact with people she befriended in the media. I was literally ghosted by her.”

Piers Morgan has also claimed he had struck up a friendship with Markle, only to be dropped when she and Prince Harry publicly announced they were a couple.

Cundy - ex-wife of former Chelsea footballer Jason Cundy - told how she showed Markle a picture of Chelsea player Ashley Cole who had just split from Cheryl.

Cundy claims Markle said: “Oh yeah, he’s cute. Does he have a reputation?”

It has previously been reported that Markle claimed she was pursued by Cole.

The retired actress celebrated her first wedding anniversary with Prince Harry on Sunday. The pair have just become parents to son Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, who was born on May 7.
