Meghan Markle channels Jackie Kennedy in bespoke black suit and beret

Updated, 7:30 a.m.: This piece has been updated to include new details about Meghan Markle’s outfits.

For the second time in a week, Meghan Markle was called on to pull together a somber look as part of her royal responsibilities. On Monday, the bride-to-be wore a black Hugo Boss dress for a memorial service marking the 25th anniversary of the death of Stephen Lawrence, the British teen whose racially motivated murder rocked the U.K.

On Wednesday, she joined fiancé Prince Harry for services to commemorate Anzac Day, which honors Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women. It also marks the contributions of the two countries in World War I.

Markle first paid her respects — and warded off the chilly temperatures — by opting for a conservative look as she attended dawn services at London’s Hyde Park. Her long gray coat, designed by Smythe, echoed the day’s theme with its military-style buttons and was worn over a black dress.

Her floppy black hat, meanwhile, added a boho note, while the former actress further accessorized with Sarah Flint’s Jay heels in black suede and Gucci’s Dionysus bag.

The final touch was a poppy flower pin on her lapel, which symbolizes respect for those who serve and those who have died in battle.

The couple later moved on to Westminster Abbey, where they joined new dad Prince William for a second Anzac Day service.

The event called for an outfit change, prompting Markle to swap her coat for a bespoke, midi-length Emilia Wickstead dress suit in black crepe. Echoing the white Stephen Jones hat she wore to the Abbey in March — and exuding a classic Jackie Kennedy aesthetic with a dash of Parisian chic — the Suits star sported a black beret from milliner Philip Treacy.

The Kennedy vibe may not be incidental. Markle wore Black Halo’s Jackie-O belted dress to a reception with Prince Harry on April 20. Should we be keeping an eye out for a pillbox hat?
