This is why Meghan Markle keeps hiding her hands in her pocket

While Alanis Morissette most definitely made having one hand in your pocket a ~thing, Meghan Markle most likely isn’t channeling the “Jagged Little Pill” singer with her latest wardrobe choice.

When it comes to Markle’s stance, she often has a hand buried in the pocket of a designer ensemble, and while we’re all fans of a good pocket dress — her pose has left many wondering why she does it.

OK! decided to dig into the Duchess’s pose — and what they discovered is pretty interesting. Body language analyst Judi James says it’s not just Markle who’s guilty of the pose.

“Prince Charles does it, Prince Harry does it and even little Prince George has been seen doing it, but Meghan might be the first royal woman to shove her hand into a pocket when she’s out in public,” she said.

James explains that typically placing a hand in the pocket is an indicator that someone wants to hide.

“The classic reason for this very common gesture is that it signals a subliminal desire to hide, especially when the hands are shoved deep into the pockets,” said James. “It also helps get over the common problem most of us suffer from, which is not really knowing what to do with our hands when we know people are looking at us.”

But the expert doesn’t believe this is why the Duchess has taken to the pose.

Instead, James believes her common gesture has everything to do with Markle’s style inspiration.

“Meghan’s high levels of confidence suggest her reason is more to do with fashion than anxiety though… It is also a probable nod to her love of ’50s styling,” she said.

“Her full skirts are very Audrey Hepburn and, to wear them well, a hand in one pocket is almost de rigueur. She also loves slouchy coats and jackets and the same fashion rule of ‘wearing’ the tailoring would apply with them too.”
