Meghan Markle will never run for US president
Now that she’s a fully-fledged member of the royal family, a bunch of rumours have been spreading that Meghan Markle may want to put her duchess duties to one side in order to run for US presidency.
The former Suits actor has always expressed an interest in politics, having previously fought against the stigmatisation of menstrual health poverty, campaigned to provide clean drinking water in Rwanda, and completed an internship at the U.S Embassy in Buenos Aires.
So, nobody was too shocked when the Daily Mail published a report claiming that the 36-year-old told "an associate” that she'd still like to run for office in the future: “Meghan was quite clear that she wanted to be president one day," the source said.
Even though California-born Meghan could *technically* become POTUS, a rep for Kensington Palace reportedly told Yahoo News that there's no truth to the speculation: “The conversation you describe with an associate is fictitious," they responded.
Not to mention the fact the royal family as a whole must remain politically neutral at all times. Former royal press secretary Dickie Arbiter previously told The Guardian: "Now she [Meghan] has come into the royal family, she will have to be politically neutral.”
The Queen herself has to rise above party issues, with BBC America explaining: “The Sovereign - who’s there to provide stability, continuity, and a national focus - doesn’t become publicly involved in the party politics of government. But she is entitled to be informed and consulted, and to advise, encourage, and warn ministers."
President Markle? It's not going to happen.
