Days after officially leaving their senior working royal roles, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have announced the name of their new non-profit organisation and its link to their son's name.

Sharing the name of their new venture, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced it would be called 'Archewell' - in honour of their son.

The couple also confirmed that both their new organisation and the name of their son Archie - whose full name is Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor - was inspired by the Greek word Arche which means 'source of action'.

'Archewell is a name that combines an ancient word for strength and action and another that evokes the deep resources we each must draw upon,' they said.

According to the Telegraph, Archewell will be an umbrella organisation which plans to include emotional support groups, a multi-media educational network, a wellbeing website and their own charity and volunteer outreach programme.

The couple said in a statement they want 'to do something of meaning, to do something that matters'.

No launch date for the new organisation has been given as the couple are currently focusing on efforts to support people during the current, unprecedented situation, saying they will launch Archewell 'when the time is right'.

'Faced with this information coming to light, we felt compelled to share the story of how this came to be,' they told the newspaper.

It was previously thought the couple would launch a 'SussexRoyal' foundation, however they were reportedly prohibited from using the term 'royal' going forward, due to them relinquishing their royal roles.

On March 31st the couple formally stepped down as senior royals and began the process of becoming financially independent from the monarchy.

They are now believed to have set up home with Archie - who turns one next month - in Meghan's native Los Angeles, California after spending much of the year in Vancouver, Canada.
