Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's Instagram account, @SussexRoyal, has removed a post and issued an apology after making a spelling mistake in a quote they posted from poet and civil rights activist Maya Angelou.

The quote should have read: "Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women."

Instead, however, the original post read: "Each time a women stands up for herself..."

Followers of the Duke and Duchess' Instagram account were quick to point out the mistake, commenting the likes of, "typo!". And a day after the initial upload, it seems Meghan and Harry's digital team cottoned on to their mistake.

The quote was corrected and re-posted to be grammatically correct, along with an apology highlighting the error.

"We post inspiring words like these so you can enjoy them, remember them, and share them - all the more reason to ensure they’re accurate. We are reposting because of a typo in the previous quote card," read the caption.

"Apologies for the hiccup, and many thanks to those of you who flagged it for us! We do hope you’ll keep and share these powerful words from Maya Angelou," it continued.

Followers praised Meghan and Harry's team for admitting the mistake and correcting it, as opposed to simply deleting it and re-uploading without acknowledging anything had happened.

"Love this! And the fact you guys are willing to say you messed up and fix it instead of deleting and pretending like nothing happened!" one person wrote. "Well handled," commented another.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made their first public appearance since their royal tour of Southern Africa on Tuesday this week. The couple attended the WellChild Awards, which honours inspirational young people affected by seriously illness. During his heartfelt speech, Prince Harry choked up, clearly emotional as he remembered attending the awards the year before, when he and Meghan had just found out they were expecting their first baby.

"Last year, when my wife and I attended, we knew we were expecting our first child – no one else did at the time, but we did – and I remember..." he said, pausing to hold back tears.

"I remember squeezing Meghan’s hand so tight during the awards, both of us thinking what it would be like to be parents one day, and more so, what it would be like to do everything we could to protect and help our child should they be born with immediate challenges or become unwell over time," Harry told the audience.

"And now, as parents, being here and speaking to all of you pulls at my heartstrings in a way I could have never understood until I had a child of my own."

What a sweet, sensitive soul he is.
