Meghan Markle and Prince Harry took a secret trip to the U.S. for Thanksgiving

Meghan Markle may be a member of the British royal family, but the duchess stayed true to her roots and celebrated Thanksgiving last Thursday with all the other Americans.

Whereas it was reported that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made a last-minute change to their holiday plans and were going to celebrate at Frogmore Cottage, royal insiders claim that the former actress did fly back to the United States for baby Archie's first Thanksgiving. Meghan and Harry may still be in the United States.

"The Sussexes are away," said reporter Omid Scobie to royal producer Lizzie Robinson on Scobie's The HeirPod podcast last week. "They are on their break right up until Christmas... they celebrated Thanksgiving privately with close family, which is lovely."

"It’s a long-time trip that they’re on, I think," he later added. "You’re really going to see them away until Christmas as far as I’m aware, which good for them."

"[They need the break] and probably being away, back home for Meghan in the U.S.," Robinson responded.

While Buckingham Palace never confirmed details of the couple's sabbatical, it's been rumored that they were to spend Thanksgiving in Los Angles with Meghan's mother, Doria. The palace did announce last month that the couple will not be returning for Queen Elizabeth's annual Christmas celebrations at Sandringham.

"Having spent the last two Christmases at Sandringham, Their Royal Highnesses will spend the holiday this year, as a new family, with the Duchess’ mother Doria Ragland," a spokesperson said last month. "This decision is in line with precedent set previously by other members of the Royal Family, and has the support of Her Majesty The Queen."

According to PEOPLE, the parents of Archie are also considering leaving the United Kingdom to establish a second base in either the United States, Canada or Africa.

“It’s not possible for them to be [in the U.K.] like this,” a source told the publication. “There’s more pressure now. There’s a shift that is happening.”
