Yesterday’s royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle was littered with sweet tributes to Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana.

But perhaps the most obvious came when the newlyweds stepped out of Windsor Castle to head to their Frogmore House reception, where Meghan’s right hand was decorated with a stunning ring from Diana’s personal collection.

The new Duchess of Sussex wore Diana’s aquamarine cocktail ring – a stunning emerald-cut ring, surrounded by small diamonds on either side, and set in 24 carat yellow gold.

The central jewel is pale blue.

The ring – which was created by Asprey in 1997 – was worn by Diana a couple of times in her life, one notably at an auction of her dresses at Christie’s, London, in 1997.

As Meghan stepped out – having changed into a custom Stella McCartney dress for her evening reception – she waved to onlookers, showing off the diamond.

The pair got into a silver-blue Jaguar E-Type Concept Zero, which was then driven by Harry to the evening’s celebrations.

Diana wrote in her will: “I would like you to allocate all my jewellery to the share to be held by my sons, so that their wives may, in due course, have it or use it.”

Prince Harry has said in that past that he thinks his new bride and his late mother would have been “thick as thieves”.

During his engagement interview, he said: “As I said, she would have probably been best friends – best friends with Meghan.”

Meghan’s engagement ring also contains two diamonds from Diana’s personal collection.

The jewels were not the only tributes to Diana in the couple’s wedding: the Duchess of Sussex’s bridal bouquet contained forget-me-nots, picked by Harry from Princess Diana’s private garden in Kensington Palace.

During the ceremony, Prince Harry asked his aunt, Lady Jane Fellowes, Diana’s older sister, to give a reading from the Song of Solomon.

Later, Prince Harry and Meghan chose the hymn ‘Guide Me, O Thy Great Redeemer’ in the service, which was sung at Princess Diana’s funeral in 1997.
