One of the challenges that comes with dressing for summer weather is the age old question: what do you wear underneath?

Supportive undergarments that manage to stay well hidden are more important than ever in hot weather, especially since there are so many pieces of clothing that feature strapless necklines and plunging, open backs.

It can be tough to know what to look out for, so in order to get the insider tips on what we should be wearing this season, we reached out to celebrity stylist Talia Brown.

Having worked with stars like Meghan Markle during her “Suits” days, Brown definitely has a few tricks up her sleeve when it comes to helping people look and feel their best.

“People want breathable fabrics in the summer. They want something that feels light on the skin, but still has support,” Brown explained during an interview with Yahoo Canada. “No one wants underwear lines or bras that show.”

To get that optimal comfort and light feeling on the skin, Brown recommends looking for bras and underwear made from breathable cotton for those hot summer days. Staying away from underwire can also provide a feeling of freedom, while still providing support.

“[They] still give a nice shape yet you don’t feel claustrophobic,” she noted.

As for underwear, Brown recommends considering the different weather conditions that you’ll face throughout the season, especially if you plan on spending a lot of time outdoors.

“You need to protect yourself from all the elements - for example a windy day date,” she explained. “Little shorts are a win for those shorter dress days.”

Strapless bras are an obvious choice for keeping bra straps out of sight under tanks and open necklines, but the most important factor to consider when buying one is the proper fit. Brown recommends getting professionally fitted when possible, since many women are currently wearing the wrong size bra.

“As you mature so does your body. We are forever changing,” Brown shared. “The better your undergarments fit, the smoother your clothing will drape over [it]. It all starts with the first layer on your skin.”
