It is important to feel and dress like your normal self during pregnancy; after all, having a baby doesn't mean you suddenly want a whole new wardrobe. Follow Meghan Markle's example: when the Duchess was pregnant with Archie, she continued wearing smart dresses, blazers, and heels as she normally did, the only difference being her growing bump. And in her interview with Oprah, she wore a belted black silk Armani dress and stilettos. Since the announcement of the couple expecting their baby girl, she has been sporting a more relaxed look in Santa Barbara with casual attire and laid back sun dresses. Clearly, you don’t need a whole closet full of maternity clothes to look good during pregnancy. Choose what you really need from maternity styles and then mix in "regular," but forgiving, pieces that you'll continue to enjoy post-pregnancy. Below, are a few key items Meghan adjusted to make it through all three trimesters and beyond.

An oversize—or simply sized-up—button-up blouse can be quite versatile. Here, Meghan pairs a crisp white button-up with a black skirt from Givenchy for an evening affair. For more casual engagements, the shirt can be worn with jeans (Hatch makes great maternity denim) or relaxed-fit pants. After the baby is born, keep the shirt in rotation by tying the bottom, wearing open over a slip dress, or belted at the waist.

A flowing printed dress is perfect to wear while pregnant: it can be worn during the day with flat sandals or at night with a pair of heels and a clutch. Here, Meghan wears a Carolina Herrera dress to meet King Mohammed VI in Morocco. Relaxed dresses are always in style for summer so keep these in your closet for years to come.

A blazer, worn open to accommodate your bump, is a smart, easy layer that makes any outfit feel polished. Here, Meghan wears a blazer over simple black jeans and a sweater. You can also wear it over a dress for more formal affairs.

A statement-making coat can be worn over most anything. And as long as you don’t mind showing off that bump, like Meghan does here, you don’t have to size up. If you are looking for something that provides more coverage, consider a roomy swing coat.

A knit dress is a great solution for when you want to look polished but comfortable. Plus, the stretchy material ensures you can wear it during various stages of pregnancy. Meghan wore an affordable H&M dress in a neutral hue and with heels in the same color to visit Mayhew, one of her former royal patronages. For a sportier look, try wearing the dress with sneakers.
