It's a fashion showdown in Japan!

Melania Trump attended a state banquet in Tokyo wearing a striking red Valentino dress, but she may have been upstaged by White House communications director Hope Hicks who opted for a chic tuxedo for the glamorous event.

The first lady chose a traditional, floor-length number for the glitzy occasion that she paired with shoes of the same hue. She kept her low chignon bun hairstyle from earlier in the day, while adding a slightly darker shade of pink to match her dramatic look.

Meanwhile, Hope surprised the crowd with a tailored black suit, a traditional white tuxedo shirt and an oversized black bow tie. The 29-year-old completed her look with a statement-making pink color on her lips, a smokey eye and her tresses in a simple blown out style. See her look below:

The dinner was hosted by Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe at the Akasaka Palace in Tokyo to mark President Trump's visit. Hope and Melania are both traveling with the president for his 12-day trip around Asia, which will also see him visit South Korea, China, Vietnam and the Philippines.

Earlier in the day, Melania dazzled in a navy blue Dior number while visiting a group of elementary school kids. She, alongside the prime minister's wife, participated in a fun calligraphy class with the schoolchildren. The first lady was greeted with a warm welcome from the students, evident by the adorable photos above of Melania and the children together.
