For the gala, the first lady wore a $2,595 crepe draped gown from Filipino designer Monique Lhuillier‘s 2017 resort collection.

She paired the glamorous floor-length silk gown, which featured a front knot at the waist and cape back detailing, with Manolo Blahnik pumps — also reverting to her signature hairstyle. She appeared to have a good time at the event, writing on Twitter, “Thank you to everyone at @fordstheatre for tonight’s performances! @POTUS and I enjoyed the evening very much.”

It appears the first lady’s designer of choice was fond of the look — the designer wrote, “Elegant in silk! @FLOTUS at the Ford’s Theatre Gala in #MLResort17 #moniquelhuillier.”

Lhuillier is a well-known designer adored by high-profile stars, fashion influencers, political figures, and even a former first lady.

Michelle Obama was often photographed in the luxe label during her time in the White House. For the 37th annual Kennedy Center Honors in Washington in 2014, she wore a pale pink embroidered gown from Lhuillier.

The next year, she wore the designer once again to meet with Pope Francis at the White House.

Lhuillier wrote in her Instagram caption that she was “honored” Obama wore her design. In fact, Obama opted to wear the designer so much that Lhuillier was one of those who wrote special notes to her when her time in the White House came to an end.

“I am so honored to have dressed you and love what you have done for American fashion. Your confidence and poise in every situation has been such an inspiration to me,” Lhuillier wrote.
