Melania Trump's controversial jacket inspires 'I care' fashion
People are reacting to Melania Trump’s controversial Zara jacket with a style statement of their own.
On Thursday, the first lady traveled to Texas to visit migrant children wearing a hooded Zara jacket with the message “I really don’t care, do u?” scrawled on the back in big white letters. Her spokeswoman, Stephanie Grisham, denied that there was any “hidden message” in the clothing choice, while President Trump later tweeted that the dismissive note was an attack on “fake news media.”
“I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?” written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!

The conflicting statements have done little to quell the outrage over the jacket’s message, with critics calling it tone-deaf and offensive in light of the highly divisive family separation policy unfolding at the Texas-Mexico border.
Amidst speculation that FLOTUS — who typically wears high-priced designer outfits — purposely wore the 2-year-old, $39 jacket to register to send a message, many people are fashioning their own apparel announcing that they do, in fact, care about the migrant children being detained at the border. Actress Busy Philipps was among those DIY-ing their wardrobes to fire back.

Meanwhile, some fashion brands are using the PR disaster to raise awareness. Both Lingua Franca and Wildfang have created anti-apathy pieces, with proceeds going to RAICES, which provides immigrants with legal and education services.
