Michael Kopech Filed for Divorce From Vanessa Morgan

She announced her pregnancy three days ago.

White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech has filed for divorce from Riverdale actor Vanessa Morgan, Entertainment Tonight reports. The paperwork was submitted on June 19 in Morris County, Texas. The two were married in early January after getting engaged at the Grand Canyon back in July 2019.

Morgan (who is addressed as Vanessa Morgan Mziray in the divorce filing), plays Toni Topaz on Riverdale and announced that she is pregnant with her first child, a baby boy, on July 24. Kopech wasn't in the announcement video and in the caption, Morgan made no mention of him. A representative for Morgan confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that Kopech is the father, but had no further comments.

"I can't believe how much growth & strength you've already given me as your mom," she wrote on Instagram. "It's like God knew I needed you, my angel. The universe works in mysterious ways but always times everything the way it was meant to be. Lil one you were made with so much love & already exude a light so strong it warms my belly."

Morgan’s last post with Kopech is a birthday photo, which was posted on April 30.

Kopech is taking a season off from the White Sox, citing "personal reasons." Kopech missed summer camp, which started on July 3. His team said that he was tending "to a personal matter." Kopech underwent Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in September 2018. He missed the entire 2019 season while recovering.
