Thinking of getting a smart watch? Before wandering into your nearest Apple store, hold your horses - Michael Kors launched it’s new smart watch yesterday, and it’s pretty darn beautiful.

The thing about the Michael Kors Access display smartwatch is that, unlike most smart watches, this looks and feels like a piece of jewellery.

Using the Android Wear platform, it’s compatible with iPhone and Android, but it’s geared towards the more “fashion-focused” consumer and apparently designed to “show that technology and social connectivity should be seamless”.

A big thing is the watch’s customizable features; there are several display watch faces to choose from which can be changed with a swipe, and there are hundreds of possible combinations for the display face, colour and sub dials.

It’s hard to picture something that looks like high-end jewellery giving you adequate app notifications and social media alerts, but it does, and it has built-in fitness tracking too.

Guys don’t need to miss out either - there’s also a men’s sportier option, and both feature interchangeable leather and silicone wristbands.

It’s rare to see a bit of tech that doesn’t scream ‘function’ over ‘fashion’, but this is what makes the Michael Kors watch stand out - or rather, blend in; it’s easily mistaken for one of the brand’s other slick watch designs.

So it’s easy to see why Apple is worried - especially after watching the watch’s promotional video featuring none other than Zendaya and Martha Hunt.
