Michelle Obama wore her hair in natural curls over the weekend and the Internet was all over it.

The former first lady took to the stage at Essence's annual Essence Fest in New Orleans on Saturday night, and debuted a new, more natural do.

Instead of the smooth, sleek waves she normally showcases, she opted to leave her shoulder-length curls natural but with blonde ombré highlights.

Taking to social media, Obama shared a couple of photos to Instagram of her Essence Fest experience, writing in the caption of one of her posts: "What a great night here in New Orleans celebrating 25 years of#EssenceFest and #BlackGirlMagic. Thanks to @GayleKing for sitting down with me to talk about all things #IAmBecoming, relationships and just how hard it is as women to put ourselves first."

Unsurprisingly, the reaction to her new hair has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic with many fellow curly-locked women taking to social media to thank Obama for offering curly hair some much-needed representation.

This isn't the first time the former first lady has worn her hair curly - she famously showed off her curls on the cover of Essence magazine back in December.

She also wore her hair naturally curly back in 2017, a few months after leaving the White House.

More recently, she was spotted sporting what appeared to be her natural curls on a family holiday in June.

Now that it seems like her curls are becoming more of a thing we’re looking forward to seeing how she continues to style them.
