Forget falsies! Milk Makeup's Volumizing Mascara is where it's at — and it's on sale

Milk Makeup's KUSH High Volumizing Mascara grabs even the tiniest lashes and coats them from root to tip.

I remember logging onto a deskside that Milk Makeup held during the ebbs and flows of the pandemic to celebrate the launch of new beauty and skincare products.

Despite being a pretty trivial time, the world was excited about getting ready again or upgrading their no-makeup makeup look. When the WFH aesthetic ruled, it only made sense that illuminating and caring for your complexion was in, and caking on concealer foundation was not.

Milk has always embraced this pretty-yet-practical approach (with its space-age twist), so you can imagine my excitement about trying some products, particularly the OG KUSH High Volumizing Mascara.

As someone who's become increasingly sensitive to the oils, fragrances and silicones in mascaras, I was surprised to find I wasn't irritated by this one at all, and I couldn't come up with a reason why I hadn't tried it earlier.

Better yet? Even better? If you're a Sephora Beauty Insider, you can currently score this product for 20 per cent off with code GETGIFTING, making it an even better time to snap up this favourite.

$28 $35 at Sephora

You may remember the stir Milk's KUSH Mascara caused when it was launched in 2018, ahead of the legalization of marijuana in Canada. The trick is this mascara doesn't contain THC— it uses hemp-derived cannabis seed oil, which contains fatty acids and antioxidants that help nourish lashes.

While the formula is creamier than I would've reached for previously, it never felt greasy or melted down my face. Even after removing it, my lashes feel conditioned, not dry and brittle.

Although the KUSH Mascara is not a tubing mascara (a formula that creates polymer tubes around each lash to separate, lengthen, and hold), it wraps lashes from root to tip with natural heart-shaped fibres to catch the brand's special recipe.

Not only has it won awards and a Clean at Sephora seal, but it's won over customers too. The KUSH Mascara is vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free and fragrance-free. With more than 10,000 reviews and 126,000 loves on Sephora's website, it's safe to say this product is a hit (especially amongst contact lens wearers!).

What shoppers are saying

Of course, everyone loves a product that's nice to look at, but if we're talking about mascara, what matters is the formula and the brush, and reviewers agree.

"I was very surprised when I tried this mascara for the first time. I naturally have very fine lashes, but it made my lashes appear thicker and longer. It also gave me a good bit of volume after two coats," one shopper said.

Speaking of volume, it's typically easier to achieve by using a lot of product which can inadvertently weigh things down. However, this brush has distinctive crisscross bristles that easily gather lashes— even those in hard-to-reach places— and evenly coat them.

"I love this mascara it was very light weight but it made my lashes look so good! It extended my lashes and it didn't have my lashes clumped up together or sticking to each other it's definitely a must have mascara," said another shopper.

No clumping, no problem, right? A Sephora reviewer who enthusiastically commented, "This is the best mascara I've ever used! No lie!" appears to agree.

At its current sale price, the KUSH mascara is a great bargain — however you can also snap up a mini size on sale for $15 — it would make a great stocking stuffer!
