Miranda Lambert Speaks Out About Her Publicized Divorce in a Rare Interview

From Woman's Day

Country music fans were devastated when Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton announced their split in 2015. The industry's "it" couple had been together for nearly a decade and, having collaborated on a number of hit songs, their relationship was deeply intertwined with their careers.

Still, the exes managed to move on—both personally and professionally—in the years since their divorce. Blake made headlines with a number of chart-topping hits and found love again with his Voice co-star Gwen Stefani, while Miranda released her seventh studio album and married husband Brendan McLoughlin earlier this year. But even with new music and new love lives, some wounds never completely heal.

In a recent interview with Health, Miranda admitted that going through a painful divorce in the "public eye" took a toll on her.

"When everyone's worried about your personal life, it makes you feel like, 'Well, if you could just spend some of that time talking about my actual art, that would be great!'" she said, referencing the way her breakup overshadowed her music at the time.

"But I guess I asked for it, getting into this business," Miranda continued. "I'm never gonna get used to the public eye in that way."

No matter what, fans will always have opinions about Miranda's life. Take the 2019 CMA Awards, for example: Some people claimed that the country singer refused to clap after Blake's performance. Is that true? Who knows. But we do know that Miranda just wants you to pay attention to her "actual art."
