The Bringer of Rain is opting for snow.

Former Toronto Blue Jays star and current Minnesota Twins third baseman Josh Donaldson was seen in Newmarket, Ont. sports store, All Pro Source for Sports, trying to get all the best hockey gear for this winter.

According to the 2015 AL MVP, he purchased the equipment for an outing with some family and friends at a local rink.

“You could tell he is really looking forward to it,” said Darren Ertl, the store’s owner, via the Toronto Star. “He was excited. You could see it in his face.”

As word got out through social media of the former Blue Jays star’s appearance, fans came out in droves, searching for autographs and pictures. Donaldson spent three to four hours at the store.

“He was a genuine, nice humble person,” store clerk Joel Morelly said. “It was cool he took the time to talk with everybody. ...He said he'd only been on ice one other time, so there was definitely some teaching going on about elbow pads, shin pads and skates.”

“With all the pandemic stuff it’s nice to have someone come into the store and have fun,” said Ertl. “It’s nice to have people joking and laughing, getting autographs and taking pictures.”

As a show of passion for the city he used to call home, Morelly eventually persuaded Donaldson to slide a Toronto Maple Leafs jersey over his equipment, resulting in the posed picture Donaldson shared on Twitter.

What started out as just one athlete needing to suit up for a small get together, turned into a fan fest, no doubt sharing memories of the incredible years when he was a Blue Jay.

If the Leafs continue having the season they are, maybe they will get a hold of Donaldson’s agent.
