Many kids often bite their nails as a nervous habit, and while many parents try to urge their children to stop biting, one mom from Louisiana is now warning other parents about the potential dangers of biting your nails.

Last week, Sara Guidry noticed something odd in her son Kale's mouth. Something white was poking out of his gums.

"I get a tweezer and pull it. It looked like a finger nail. I continued to pull 4 more out," Guidry wrote on Facebook. "I then search his mouth and find another area. I pulled around 27 out of the second spot. YES 27!"

She explains that her son's dentist had never seen anything like this before.

"We figured out that Kale bites his nails and plays with them in his mouth. He pushes them up towards his pallet," Guidry continued in her post. "The nail penetrates the skin and goes into a pocket between the baby teeth and permanent teeth. Don't let your children bite their nails!"

The video has since gone viral with over 200,000 shares and over 90,000 comments.

While nail biting is usually not dangerous, it can lead to skin infections, warts and, as Guidry, points out, dental issues. There are a few ways to help your kids nix their nail biting habits, but it's always best to speak with your child's pediatrician to get to the root of the issue, as well as a potential fix.
