Having a premature baby can be a seriously scary thing - something that Australian mom Amy Purling knows all too well. According to Today, she was struggling back in February 2016 when her son was born 10 weeks premature and needed blood transfusions.

When she wanted to take photos of her son to celebrate major moments in his life, she felt what was out on the market didn't accurately represent what she wanted to celebrate.

"I was using milestone cards for full-term babies but they just weren't suitable for our situation," she said to Today. "I realized NICU parents should have a way to celebrate these huge leaps just like any other parent."

So she started Miracle Mumma, where she makes and sells placards so parents in similar situations can celebrate their babies' major life events.

For parents of preemies or babies who were in the NICU, it's about more than celebrating their child's first words or first teeth or first steps, it's about life-defining monuments like breathing on their own or beating their first infection or leaving the NICU - the site sells placards for all of those occasions.

She shares photos of other babies whose parents take photos with the placards on Instagram, too.

And fortunately for Purling, things are going well for sonnow. "James turned one in February and has officially 'caught up,'" she said to Today. "He is saying a few words, getting into everything, and almost walking. His platelet disorder was corrected in those first few weeks and won't be a concern from now on. We feel extremely blessed that he is 100 percent healthy and happy."

And though obviously placards can't solve any medical issues, they can at least provide some emotional support for struggling parents.
