Like a hit TV series, parenting has many seasons, some of which are more enjoyable than others. Take it from TikToker and parent Jessica Rodriguez (@movingmomward). The mom-of-two recently shared a hilarious sketch where she parodies the different phases of parenting young children, and parents are saying it’s disturbingly accurate.
The clip opens with an action shot starting with “The 1st year.” The camera rapidly shakes as though there’s an earthquake happening in the house. “Ahhh, we’re gonna die,” Rodriguez dramatically lip-syncs to audio from the film How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
As chaotic as Rodriguez’s depiction of the first year is, the mayhem only heightens when year 2 rolls around. “I’m going to throw up! And then I’m going to die,” Rodriguez emotes, mouthing the Grinch’s audio while the shaking intensifies.
Rodriguez illustrates that the ride isn’t over when entering the “Terrifying 3s.” As the camera shakes, Rodriguez throws her head back in emotional despair while lip-syncing, “Help me! Can’t we just stop?”
Fortunately, around ages 4-5, Rodriguez shows the ride beginning to slow down. The camera becomes steadier, and Rodriguez’s bewildered, wide-eyed expression turns into nervous laughter as she mimics the audio playing over the footage.
Before the video comes to a close, Rodriguez looks around the room calmly before lip-syncing, “Almost lost my cool there.”
Viewers, especially parents, took to the comments to commiserate with Rodriguez over the parenthood roller coaster.
“As a parent nearing year 4, I can confirm it’s been real, it’s been fun, but it hasn’t been real fun. 4 is looking sassy,” one parent shared.
“So, can I just skip to 4-5?” joked another parent.
“And then they become teenagers, and that panicked feeling starts all over again,” one TikToker warned.
Like a roller coaster, parenting has many ups and downs, but it’s important to remember to hang on and enjoy the ride.
