Mom's photo proves a C-section isn't the 'easy way out'

The number of women who undergo cesarean sections is on the rise — and yet there’s still debate over whether or not a C-section is considered “easier” than a natural birth (cue the crazy birth photographer). Olivia White was so determined to prove that having a C-section was just as trying on the body – so she posted a shocking phototo Instagram just hours after giving birth.

“Look I know it might not be my best angle (or is it?) but who wouldn’t take selfies hours post birth so they can see where they sliced you open and yanked out a whole person (if you couldn’t tell I still couldn’t see past my still inflated uterus),” White captioned, alongside the photo of her stitched-up stomach.

“This is what you really look like a few hours post C-section,” she continued. “To anyone who thinks it’s the easy way out, try having a 6 inch gash in your abdomen like a gutted shark who had the body parts of the surfer it ate retrieved! That’s then sewn back together with fishing wire while it feels like your vital organs are trying to escape!” Oh boy.

She hints that everything is roses until the spinal anaesthesia wears off, but after that “it’s like you’ve been hit by a bus which then backed over you just to make sure it didn’t miss you the first time!”

White said that If you don’t time the Endone (pain reliever) exactly before the previous dose wears off then “you will most certainly know you are alive (while wishing you were dead).”

Worst – you’ll feel as if you’ll spend your entire life wearing “nanna knickers” up around your waist because “the thought of anything settling in the canyon between your gut and pubic region is the stuff nightmares are made of. ”

“Anyone who’s ever had C-section knows that you’ll forever be dependent on your friends Nancy, Dr. 90210, and Spanx because you cannot for the life of you get rise of the ditch that is left by the scar.”

But, she concludes, for all the skin tight long-sleeve dresses she bought while pregnant, that now make her look like she has a “Kangaroo pouch” – she wouldn’t change it for the world.

“Because if it wasn’t for the ability to deliver my babies this way they might not be here today. Plus I recon getting cut from A to B sounds way worse.”

The support have been extremely positive, with hundreds of mothers opening up about their own C-section experiences:

“Yes! 2 emergency C-sections here! One born a month early! The pain it isn’t pretty but when I look at my babies they are worth the pain and tears!”

“Amazing description — 3 C-sections survivor here! Thank you for sharing! Each one different from the other and the last one was the most painful!”

“I had a planned C-section in February in a Belgian hospital…my epidural anesthesia didn’t go well so when the doctor made his incision, it was really painful. They injected more anaesthetics when they closed the incision but still it was very painful. I hope I never have to give birth with C-section again!”
