Nail Art Know How: Gold Standard

We'll spare you all the gold idioms and just say this: Foil leafing might just be the fastest way to fake a designer mani.

Follow manicurist Geraldine Holford's lead by starting with clear base coat before applying two layers of Zoya's midnight-blue "Dream" nail polish ($10; zoya.com).

Wait until the polish becomes tacky to the touch, then use tweezers to pick up bits of gold foil--available at your local craft store--and gently press onto the nail at random.

Lock in your handiwork by topping with clear base, and you're golden. (Sorry... we couldn't resist.)
