Was Nancy Pelosi throwing shade with her red coat? The possible secret meaning behind the viral style

Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer made a visit to the White House on Tuesday for a meeting with President Donald Trump to discuss funding for the proposed border wall. But beyond the tense conversation that ensued in front of the press, people seem to be most interested in discussing Pelosi’s look, specifically her bold red coat.

The minority leader of the House of Representatives stunned the internet as she stepped out of the West Wing in the attention-grabbing color and threw on a pair of sunglasses. People immediately began speculating about the meaning behind the color choice since red is known to loudly exude confidence. She even became the center of a host of memes about the “blood red” ensemble, leading most to believe that she didn’t wear it by accident.

“She knew exactly what she was doing,” film director Barry Jenkins tweeted. “They’ve never been JUST clothes.”

As it turns out, the last time Pelosi stepped out in that exact Armani coat publicly was for former President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration.

One person on Twitter even suggested that the outfit choice might have been Pelosi “throwing some shade.”

According to the new Twitter account called “Nancy Pelosi’s Red Coat,” however, the politician just has some “Big Coat Energy.”
