On Monday, Aug. 21, an epic cosmic event will take place for the viewing pleasure of people across the United States. During the “Great American Eclipse,” the moon’s shadow will travel from west to east. The total eclipse will occur along a narrow zone, called the path of totality, but a partial eclipse can be seen across the nation. It is being called the greatest celestial event of the decade, but what many people don’t know is that if you try to observe this spectacular event without proper eye protection, you could go blind. Scientists everywhere agree that looking at a solar eclipse without special glasses is even more dangerous than looking straight into the sun. But your typical sunnies just won’t work.
