Nick Jonas opens up about media's 'very strange' fascination with his purity ring
Nick Jonas is opening up about swapping his infamous purity ring for a wedding ring.
The 26-year-old musician held wife Priyanka Chopra Jonas close to his side at the premiere of “Chasing Happiness,” a documentary that chronicles the rise, fall and reunion of the Jonas Brothers.

Dressed in a black gown by Israeli designer Galia Lahav, Chopra Jonas happily engaged in PDA for photographers as she supported her husband, who’s been making the media rounds to address his experience growing up in the public eye as a teen heartthrob.
Once a punchline for Jonas Brothers critics, the band’s early years were marked by a fascination with the band sporting purity rings and practicing abstinence. In an interview with The Guardian, the “Jealous” singer reveals the impact the meaningful accessory had on his outlook on sex.

“The values behind the idea of understanding what sex is, and what it means, are incredibly important,” Jonas said. “When I have children, I’ll make sure they understand the importance of sex, and consent, and all the things that are important.”
In a 2014 Reddit AMA, Jonas shared that the decision to wear the purity ring was made “without a full understanding” of what the commitment meant.
As the band gained popularity in the early 2000s, Jonas told The Guardian that the rings very quickly became an uncomfortable topic of conversation.
“What’s discouraging about that chapter of our life is that at 13 or 14 my sex life was being discussed. It was very tough to digest it in real time, trying to understand what it was going to mean to me, and what I wanted my choices to be, while having the media speaking about a 13-year-old’s sex life,” he said. “I don’t know if it would fly in this day and age. Very strange.”

Although now one half of a high-profile couple, Jonas reveals his marriage to the 36-year-old Indian actress is made easier by her understanding of the entertainment business.
“She’s coming up on 20 years in the business, and weirdly, so am I,” Jonas said of his wife. “But she wasn’t really familiar with us, or me, when we first started dating...We actually sat down and educated each other, playing videos we were both embarrassed and proud of. It was a helpful way to get to know each other.”
