Nicole Kidman Had a Wardrobe Malfunction Right Before the Oscars
Nicole Kidman may have looked flawless at the 2017 Academy Awards, but we all know that it’s never as easy as it looks. Case in point: Kidman, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role last night, looked stunning in a embellished floor length gown custom designed by Giorgio Armani. The light apricot color blended in with her skin tone and tapered silhouette showed off her slender frame. It featured a lace overlay with hand-embroidered arabesque motifs of deep and pale orange crystals, a rep for Armani told the Telegraph.
It also had a high halter neck — and that’s where the trouble started. Kidman floated down the red carpet like an angel, with her hair pulled back to show off the gorgeous gown and a red lip to contrast the delicacy of it, but told a reporter getting ready wasn’t a seamless experience.
“I had a bit of a panic because my strap on my dress broke when I got in the car,” the actress told an Aussie anchor, according to the Daily Mail. You’d never guess, as she (or handy safety pins) held it together masterfully.
However, upon closer inspection of photos from the red carpet, you can spot redness on her skin under the strap and neckline of the gown, possibly because of the fussing necessary to fix the issue.
We reached out to her stylist Julia Van Boehm’s team but haven’t gotten a response; however, we are guessing the snafu had something to do with the crisscrossing of the straps in the back of the dress. The back was completely open, save for the straps crossing. However, later in the night the actress was spotted backstage and her dress no longer had the crisscross in the back. Instead, the straps were tied at her neck and hanging down her bare back, either due to the broken strap or the discomfort that caused the redness — or a combination of both.
Listen, beauty is pain, both mentally and physically. Of course, Kidman looked stunning regardless of the strap snafu. And look on the bright side: She basically got two custom gowns in one!
