If you have a Nintendo Switch in your house, listen up: Nintendo just announced that it is releasing a new add-on for the console that's unlike anything we've seen before.

The Nintendo Labo, which will hit stores April 20, includes ordinary cardboard that kids and parents can transform into interactive toys, called Toy-Cons, using instructions from their Switch. Once built, the toys act as accessories you can use to enhance your gaming experience.

The Labo will be available in two different versions, a Variety Kit ($70, amazon.com) that's packed with everything you need to build a car, fishing rod, house, motorbike, and working piano, or a Robot Kit ($80, amazon.com) that comes with instructions on how to built a full-scale, wearable action suit.

To play, choose the Toy-Con you want to build - they range in difficulty, and can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour to create. Then, the Switch will walk you through the building process with step-by-step directions that you can easily rewind or fast-forward. Nintendo will also be releasing a Customization Set ($10, nintendo.com) with extra stencils, stickers, and colored tape.

One of things the Good Housekeeping Institute likes best about the old-school meets new-school kits are how interactive they are - sure, you could argue that paying $70 for some cardboard is a bit outrageous, but if at the end of the day your kid gains some perspective into STEM education at home, then it might be worth it.
