Editors' Picks are the Fashionista team's true (#notspon) fashion and beauty obsessions, handpicked by professionals who see it all.

Ever since one of my nipple covers recklessly abandoned its post during a walk through sweltering Manhattan, I've been searching for a pair that can, quite literally, handle the heat. To me, summer dressing isn't just about choosing airy fabrics or lighter colors — it's also about having the right undergarments to be confident in any outfit. The recent hot spell in New York City, then, presented the perfect grounds for more testing.

The adhesive is the most important consideration for any nipple cover — and where I've found myself most disappointed. That's precisely why Okko's silicone ones so deeply impressed me: I took them for a spin during a recent afternoon with a forecast in the mid-90ºs, and not only did they each stay put (and, crucially, keep outfit intact), they remained in place even when I decided to stay out and go dancing. They get extra points for being very comfortable and seamless under clothes.

It's important to apply nipple covers to clean, dry skin. (If you're putting these on after a full day, it can be helpful to wipe the skin with an alcohol wipe or other cleansing product.) To promote their longevity, store each one wrapped in plastic and in its original shape. They wear down after about 30 uses, at which point it's best to buy a new set.
