We never thought we'd be happy to see the return of early 2000s fashion...until we saw these pants. They're the ultimate throwback piece — and they're selling out fast at Nordstrom.

The nostalgic flare cut combined with a modern high-rise fit make the Zella Barely Flare High Waist Pants (shop them in Canada here, and shop them in the U.S. here) a chic alternative to your run-of-the-mill leggings.

Some shoppers have even gone as far as to call this aughts-inspired style "the best leggings you can buy" — and at $79 CAD/$65 USD, they're also a more affordable alternative to some ultra-pricey athleisure brands.

The details

These super-soft, light-compression leggings are ideal for anyone from fitness fanatics to marathon loungers. The wide waistband provides comfortable compression for a snug fit that doesn't squish, while the moisture-wicking fabric keeps you dry and cozy for everyday errands or yoga sessions.

The Zella Barely Flare pant is also surprisingly versatile, and can be dressed up for down for most occasions. Pair them with a white T-shirt and a leather jacket for an edgy dinner outfit, or with a cute cropped hoodie for a casual grocery shop outing.

In Canada, shoppers can buy these pants in grey and black, while U.S. shoppers can score them in the same colours, as well as navy.

What shoppers are saying

These flare pants are no doubt a Nordstrom shopper favourite with a 4.1-star overall rating and nearly 350 reviews in total.

"I have many Zella pants [in] various styles, some of which are a decade old or more," one shopper wrote. "These fit very nicely and really work to create a smooth and flattering silhouette. The fabric is nice, too!"

One shopper, who has a tough time finding leggings, called these pants her "unicorn."

"They are super comfortable and so very flattering," they wrote. "I get compliments every time I wear them."

"I live in these pants," another shopper said in their review. "Seems like everyone else is in love with these pants as much as I am!"

Some shoppers are even taking to the reviews section to ask Nordstrom to restock these notoriously out of stock leggings ASAP.

"As soon as they come back in stock, I'm buying two pairs," one shopper wrote.

However, despite many positive reviews, some longtime Zella shoppers claim the length runs long, and anyone on the shorter end will need to have them hemmed.

Final verdict

Finding the perfect pair of leggings is a tougher task than you might think. There are so many variables, from material to length, silhouette and overall fit. Overall, shoppers do seem to think they've found a "unicorn" with this pair — but unfortunately, they're only made in up to size 14 (although shoppers do say they tend to run a bit big) and may be too long for shorter people.

But for those who they do work for, these might become your new favourite legging. They have a tried-and-true brand behind them, and a slew of dedicated fans eager to buy them in bulk. Get them before they sell out...again!
