Editor's picks: These are my summer must-haves for oily skin

These products are summer life savers if you struggle with oily skin!

In between talks of bronze glowing skin and beach wavy hair are the summer beauty woes woes nobody dares to mention. Personally, my list of woes include body hair removal, underarm sweat and the worst one of all, excess sebum.

I have oily skin, but come summer time, my oily skin gets even worse. On top of sweat and the extreme humidity that comes with living in the city, the excess oil on nose, cheeks and forehead causes enlarged pores and blackheads.

To help get my skin under control, I’ve gotten familiar with a couple products that I consider the best for mattifying oily skin. In case your summer skin situation sounds a lot like mine, browse through my oily-skin summer must-haves.

Lierac Sébologie Imperfections Correction Regulating Gel

I’ve come across tons of mattifying gels and serums that promise to control oily skin, but nothing compares to this correcting gel. Unlike the others, Lierac’s Sébologie Imperfections Correction Regulation Gel actually does what it promises: regulate sebum production and target dilated pores. Replacing a traditional night cream, I like to apply the gel right before bed. It instantly mattifies my skin and while giving it a smooth and clean finish that lasts until the next morning.

As good as SPF is for your skin (experts say they’re the best anti-aging ingredient) old school sunscreens have always had a bad reputation in my book for being sticky, heavy, and for leaving a white mask over the skin. To be honest, I didn’t take suncare seriously until last year when I was introduced to the Skinceuticals Physical Matte V Defense SPF 50. Adored by celebs like “Pretty Little Liars” star Lucy Hale, this face sunscreen actually does promise to keep the skin looking clean and matte, even under makeup. I especially like this sunscreen because of its lightweight and easy-to-blend texture. It sort of has the same consistency as the infamous Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($44).

Vichy Mineral 89 Hydrating Booster

While many people associate the dry winter air with dehydrated skin, many forget they can also experience dehydration during summer months. Thanks to external aggressors like pollution, extreme heat and my mistake of never drinking enough water, my forehead gets so dehydrated. Dehydration can cause dry patches, but it can also initiate the overproduction of serum, which is my problem. I can tell when my skin dehydrated when a mix of enlarged pores and little bumps start appearing above my brows and around my hairline. During the summer, I like to swap out my traditional face cream for something a little more hydrating. Enter Vichy Mineral 89 Hydrating Booster. Made with 89 per cent mineralizing thermal water and hyaluronic acid, this gel-like formula delivers an instant boost of hydration to the skin. After just one application, my skin feels much more plump and healthy. Best of all, it’s not heavy on the skin. The more I use it, the less and less oily my skin looks and feels.

La Roche-Posay Serozinc

I enjoy wearing makeup — I prefer not to leave the house without it. But with the extreme heat and the controllable sweat that comes with summer, I prefer to keep coverage lighter. Not wanting to re-apply or touch-up my makeup throughout the day, I choose to freshen up my look with a facial mist. If you know me, you know I’m a huge fan of them but there’s one formula I like to keep on my desk at all times. Unlike other mists that promise to leave your skin with a clean, matte finish, La Roche-Posay’s Serozinc is the only mist that I’ve come across to actually do so. Specifically designed for oily skin and acne-prone skin, one application magically blots the skin within minutes and reduces the appearance of pores.

Since I like to keep my makeup on the lighter side, I rely on Fenty Beauty Pro Filt'r Instant Retouch Concealer ($45) to do most of the work and hide my scars and blemishes. As for my oily T-zone, I simply brush a bit of Fenty’s Invisimatte Blotting Powder to keep it shine-free. I really like this powder because it instantly absorbs oil without leaving a white, cakey traces on my face. This powerful powder is my go-to for no-makeup makeup looks and for full-face glam looks for date night.
