13 Everyday Modern Habits And Behaviors That Make Old People Annoyingly Feel Their Age

Getting older often means that we begin to be annoyed by things that maybe didn't annoy us when we were younger. So when Reddit user u/LadyDriverKW asked the r/AskOldPeople community: "Fellow olds, what makes you feel old?" a handful of people provided their own personal grievances. Here's what they had to say below.

1."Finding out that a coworker was born the same year as you graduated from high school."

2."Random people on speakerphone conversations."

3."My Vulcan Death Grip on stair banisters. I'm afraid bread crumbs on the toaster tray might cause a fire. I'm saving boxes from Amazon ‘because you never know.’ I have a favorite spoon."

4."Watching the Progressive Insurance ads and totally seeing myself in all the homeowners who are 'turning into their parents.'"

5."Kids. There is nothing that makes you feel old faster than kids. As a parent, there are hours that drag on forever and years gone in a heartbeat. Then suddenly, they’re young adults, and you’re like, 'Wow! WTF just happened?! And where did almost 20 years of my life go?' You see little kids belonging to friends and family, and BAM, they’re driving cars and off to college. They’re doing things and using words that are a mixture of super cringy (especially when you’ve seen that trend a couple of times around already) and others where you have no idea what they’re doing or how to relate to it. This, and suddenly your own parents are gone, and you realize you are the old people to your kids."

6."Getting a senior discount without asking for it. On a funny note, I was buying a six-pack of beer. The posted sign at the cash register said everyone had to show ID with no exceptions. As I reached for my driver's license, the clerk said he didn’t need my proof of age because I was wearing it."

7."Tiny print on medication inserts and skincare products. I had perfect vision for so long, and then for a while, I realized it was going, but I could still decipher tiny print by looking at it under brighter light. Now, there’s packaging I absolutely cannot read unless I put on reading glasses. I’m maybe two years away from the 'guy at the end of Twilight Zone who finally had time.'"

8."Whenever someone says, 'Oh, that was like 50 years ago,' and I start thinking like the Great Depression or WW2, and then realize that not only is it like Woodstock, but it was actually after Woodstock."
