Olivia Rodrigo’s Ex Zack Bia Doesn’t Think “Vampire” Is About Him
Ever since Olivia Rodrigo released the burning ballad “Vampire,” her first single from her sophomore album GUTS, fans have speculated who the song is about. One of the biggest theories about the “fame f**ker” she calls out in the song points to her ex-boyfriend, influencer Zack Bia.
In a new interview with GQ, Bia said he's not buying it, despite lyrics that absolutely fit his… uh, nocturnal proclivities… like “I should've known it was strange / You only come out at night.” When asked for his thoughts on the song, Bia takes a minute before answering. “I don't think it's really about me,” he shared. “I think the Internet just ran with it.”
According to Bia, his relationship with Rodrigo simply wasn't dramatic enough to be song-worthy. “Look, I’m in the industry so I know how a song gets made,” he explained. “We hung out, we're both busy, and we ended up not furthering our relationship. There was never any drama, you know?”

This isn't the first time the DJ has been the subject of song speculation; Madison Beer also wrote a song about their relationship, titled “Selfish,” though the two are reportedly cool now. “Any time I’ve been speculatively the subject of a song, or the focus of a TikTok trend, whether grounded in reality or not, it’s like, it’s never been up to me to address it because the scale of it is so widespread,” Bia explained. “100 million people have heard this song. The only thing I can address is my own life. I can control what my friends think and the creative output that I have and things like that.”

Regardless of his status with Rodrigo, he's quick to praise her and the song, calling the single “so big and so awesome.” “Look, the momentum of a song is so special,” he continued. “I think Olivia is a generational songwriter. I think she's a generational talent. I'm always just proud of her continued accomplishments.”
But what has Olivia Rodrigo herself said about the song? She recently told Rolling Stone that she's now used to the whispering about the inspiration behind her songs. “I find myself caring less and less,” the musician said. “Behind the scenes, I do all of the things I am supposed to do and try to be as prepared as I can. People are going to say what they want to say. I feel like the more you try to control it, the more miserable you are, and the bigger it gets. I just write songs; it’s not my job to interpret them for other people.” Still, when asked if “Vampire” was written with Bia in mind, Rodrigo paused and smiled before saying, “No comment.”
Rodrigo has also addressed rumors that “Vampire” was written about her reportedly fraught friendship with one Taylor Alison Swift. “How do I answer this?” Rodrigo told The Guardian. “I mean, I never want to say who any of my songs are about. I’ve never done that before in my career and probably won’t. I think it’s better to not pigeonhole a song to being about this one thing… I was very surprised when people thought that."
