Omarosa Says That Melania's Jacket Was a Calculated Move to Hurt her Husband

The White House's official word on that jacket — you know, the one that Melania Trump wore to visit immigrant children at the border — is that the first lady wasn't making any sort of statement with her clothes. However, a former White House staffer says that Melania used the opportunity to her advantage and that she knew exactly what she was doing. And it wasn't just any White House staffer, it was Omarosa Manigault Newman. Fans of the outspoken reality star turned political aide turned author know she's not one to hold back, so her opinion may give doubters a peek into the truth behind the infamous outerwear.

"It's my opinion that Melania was forced to go to the border that day in June, essentially, to mop up her husband’s mess," Manigault Newman wrote in her new book, Unhinged. The Daily Mailgot the exclusive excerpt, which continued with a few more details.

"She wore that jacket to hurt Trump, setting off a controversy that he would have to fix, prolonging the conversation about the administration's insensitivity, ruining the trip itself, and trying to make sure that no one asked her to do something like that again," Manigault Newman wrote.

People adds that other fashion choices were similar digs at her husband and his administration's actions. Her pussy-bow blouse, for instance, was just one way for her to "punish her husband" through a calculated fashion choice. Her Hillary Clinton-inspired white pantsuit was another opportunity. Manigault Newman claims that Melania knows exactly how to get attention from the media and she's using it to her advantage, even if it's to the detriment of President Trump's policies. Though she doesn't have any concrete proof to back up her theories, as a member of the president's inner circle, she does have more insight than a normal reporter or correspondent.

"Taken as a whole, all of her style rebellions have served the same purpose, and not only misdirection and distraction — strategies her husband knows all too well," Manigault Newman added. "I believe Melania uses style to punish her husband."

The White House hasn't issued any statements in regards to the content of Manigault Newman's book. Back in June, right after Melania wore the Zara jacket, her communications director, Stephanie Grisham, did speak out. "It's a jacket. There was no hidden message," Grisham said. "After today's important visit to Texas, I hope the media isn't going to choose to focus on her wardrobe."
