Weight can be a touchy topic — something many people prefer to keep to themselves and never share with anyone, other than perhaps their family doctor. But Sam Escobar feels differently. The beauty editor at Good Housekeeping is candid about their weight, sharing that info on their Twitter profile for all their 12,400 followers to see.

“I think it’s weird how people have no idea what different weights look like… people are often surprised I shop plus size which proves they don’t know what plus size looks like,” Escobar explains in a series of tweets. “Hey I’m 5’7”, 172 lbs, approximately a size 12 or 14 with 34E boobs and I see nothing to hide about that. These are just facts, measurements and ratios.”

In their tweets, Escobar shares that they’ve struggled with bulimia for 14 years and had an unhealthy fixation on arbitrary “goal weights.” And as a beauty editor, they are aware that the fashion and beauty industry puts “a lot of negative pressure on weight and size” but it’s something they’re hoping to change and shift focus away from.

In an effort to do so, Escobar accompanied the tweet essay with a selfie, and encouraged others to tweet their own pictures and Twitter responded in spades.

With the numerous thin and lean #fitspo images clogging our Instagram feeds, it’s refreshing to see so many people open up about their size. The thread has already attracted hundreds of responses with many thanking Escobar for the body positivity messages.
