The one item you should never order from McDonald's

Happy Meals, Big Macs and the famous McChicken sauce, McDonald’s meals have been a staple for many throughout their life — and everyone has their favourite menu item.

While there are many classic and seasonal selections at the restaurant, there’s one McDonald’s offering that is strongly advised against by former employees of the restaurant. Fast food workers have taken to Reddit to reveal that Filet-O-Fish is one of the items they’d recommend skipping on the menu. Why? It all comes down to popularity.

Because the poor ol’ Filet-O-Fish isn’t as popular and frequently sold as say, the Big Mac or the Quarter Pounder, there are days when the fish could have been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. If Filet-O-Fish is your favourite, workers recommend asking for the sandwich to be prepared fresh to avoid getting a stale meal.

“At McDonald’s just say you want a fish filet cooked to order. It will take ~5 more minutes but worth it compared to the filet that has been in the heated cabinet for hours,” commented a McDonald’s worker.

While the tips were appreciated, one McDonald’s fan admits when they don’t expect the fish sandwich to be fresh due to the nature of the fast food chain.

“I feel like that is the social contract I make with McDonald’s whenever I order the Filet,” they wrote.

“If you are going to serve me a square piece of fish that tastes the exact same in Denver or the south of France, I am under no assumption that it is by any means fresh.”

The Daily Mail reached out to McDonald’s regarding the online statements.

In the same Reddit thread, workers at both Subway and Starbucks admitted their offerings also aren’t fresh, and they often use a microwave to reheat previously frozen or boiled popular snacks.
