Now you see me, now you don't. That's the game Taco Bell's beloved Quesalupa likes to play with us. Upon its glorious return to the menu earlier this year, we were warned that it would only be making a limited-time appearance, but we didn't think we'd have to say goodbye again so soon.
According to Thrillist, a spokesperson for the fast-food chain confirmed that the super popular cheese-stuffed chalupa will be leaving the menu in May: "Fans are encouraged to satisfy their Quesalupa craving before it leaves Taco Bell's menu later this month."
Prior to its launch in March, the Quesalupa had been MIA since 2016. But Taco Bell more than made up for its absence by fortifying the latest version with more cheese than ever—the 2021 Quesalupa's cheese ratio was increased by 50%, making the stuffed crispy shell extra hefty. To achieve that perfect cheesy pull you'll soon miss, the chain used a combo of melted pepper jack and mozzarella. Its insides stayed the same, however, featuring a tried-and-true blend of signature Taco Bell flavors—seasoned beef, crispy lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, fresh diced tomatoes, and sour cream.
So yes, there will be a lot to miss once our lives are Quesalupa-less starting June 1, but consider this silver lining: Taco Bell will likely come up with something new, fun, and exciting to replace the Quesalupa very soon.
