One Very Important Thing About Prince Harry's Role Isn't Changing at All

Today, a royal spokesperson answered a major question that fans have been asking since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they'd be stepping back from royal duties and no longer be senior royals. Even though the pair will no longer use their HRH titles formally (they'll get to keep them), People reports that nothing changes in terms of Prince Harry and his place in the line of succession.

"As the grandson of Her Majesty and second son of The Prince of Wales, Prince Harry remains sixth in the line of succession, and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s status in the Order of Precedence is unchanged," a spokesperson for the couple said today.

Fans have also wondered whether or not Meghan and Harry will retain their titles, including the ones that don't involve "His Royal Highness" and "Her Royal Highness," such as "Duke and Duchess of Sussex."

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will formally retain their ‘HRH’ styles, but they will not actively use them. They will continue to be known as The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as by their titles of The Earl and Countess of Dumbarton and The Baron and Baroness Kilkeel,” the statement continued.

It will all go into effect starting April 1. From that date forward, Harry and Meghan will no longer hold an office at Buckingham Palace. Instead, they'll be represented by "a U.K. charity foundation team," according to People, and continue working for causes such as mental health and youth empowerment.

The spokesperson also notes that after a calendar year, the arrangement will be reviewed by the royal family to make sure everything is going smoothly.

"As there is no precedent for this new model of working and eventual financial independence, the Royal Family and The Sussexes have agreed to an initial 12-month review to ensure the arrangement works for all parties," the spokesperson finished.
