This Is the Only Moisturizer That Keeps My Skin Hydrated All Winter

Whether or not you suffer from SAD or just really want to break up with your puffer coat, the last stretch of winter is tough. Usually, it’s also when I’ve fully accepted that the dry flakiness my skin debuted months before won’t be bidding its final farewell until the temperatures rise and humidity returns. As a lifelong East Coast dweller you’d think I would have adapted by now, but unfortunately, evolution dropped the ball when it comes to winter’s ability to wreak havoc on my skin.

It’s not an exaggeration to say I’ve tried more than 20 moisturizers while on my quest for one impressive enough to take on the winter skincare woes I’ve come to expect. And while some have worked better than others, it wasn’t until this year that I found the hands-down winner that’s ended my search for good: Fresh’s Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream, which you can get at Nordstrom.

I was restocking on the brand’s gentle, soy-based cleanser, of which I’m a longtime fan, when I spotted the reviews for its Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream and figured I should give it a shot. Its promise of “intense 24-hour moisture” was very much needed in my life and, also, I have an affinity for all rose-infused skincare products.

Upon first use, I was impressed by just how lightweight the gel formula was and how quickly it absorbed into my skin, instantly transforming it to look and feel more hydrated and replenished. Heavier formulas can cause my skin to go into a frenzy, so this light-as-air feel was a welcome change that seemed to agree with my dried-out skin from the get-go.

As for what sets it apart, the moisturizer is created with time-release hydropatches, which, yes, sounds like something straight out of Transformers, but actually helps skin stay hydrated with intense moisture throughout the day. Added into the mix is a powerhouse blend of anti-inflammatory angelica leaf extract, moisturizing hyaluronic acid, and soothing rosewater to hydrate and nourish skin for an overall healthier complexion.

What makes the Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream most impressive is its ability to moisturize and heal what’s been perhaps my worst winter skin to date. In the spirit of “new year, new me” I decided it was time to get my skincare routine back in check, which meant implementing daily use of a retinol product. The introduction phase of retinol is notorious for drying out your skin, but amazingly enough, using this moisturizer twice daily has allowed me to push through the chaos of my skin’s learning curve without any added flakiness or dry spots.

Even with the end of this marathon winter chill in sight, this is the one hydrating holy-grail moisturizer I’ll be using to keep my skin in check year round.
