Following the royal wedding, several romantic locations around the world were floated about on the internet when it came to guessing where Prince Harry and Meghan Markle jetted off to for their honeymoon.

However, a close royal source has revealed that even the most senior Kensington Palace staff weren't told where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex travelled to after they tied the knot in May.

The only two people privy to such top secret information were reportedly the Queen and Prince William.

The source told the Sun: 'No one knows where they went, only his brother and the Queen were told at first and a few immediate family members know now.'

'The most senior members of the royal household staff still have no idea where they went. They were completely frozen out of all plans and preparations.

'It was very important that the newlyweds had a private honeymoon where they could be alone together out of the public eye.'

The source explained that royal protection officers were involved with the honeymoon plans 'but only a handful of the most trusted and those who have been by Harry's side for years. The whole operation was watertight'.

'It is has been one of the most tightly guarded secrets in the Palace for years and is mainly due to the fact that news of them dating was leaked,' they added, referring to news of the couple's courtship coming out to the press last summer.

The claims come days after it was reported the Duchess has taken her first solo trip out of the UK since her wedding to visit her hometown of Toronto.

The 37-year-old was based in the Canadian city for seven years during her role on the hit television show Suits.

A source told the Mirror that Kensington Palace gave Air Canada strict instructions in a letter about Meghan's itinerary, apparently 'requesting that no one takes Meghan’s picture or approaches her on the flight'.
