O'Riley makes Denmark debut in Belfast defeat
Celtic midfielder Matt O'Riley suffered joy and disappointment in a single night in Belfast as he was handed his first senior cap by Denmark.
Head coach Kasper Hjulmand had kept his promise that the time for O'Riley, who had played several times already for the under-21s, would come by starting the Hounslow-born 22-year-old now that Euro 2024 qualification had already secured.
But it was to prove to be a losing debut as hosts Northern Ireland surprised the Group H leaders 2-0.
O'Riley was substituted immediately after Isaac Price's 60th-minute opening goal, with Dion Charles adding the second with nine minutes remaining.
Despite that result, Denmark finish top of the group on goal difference ahead of Slovenia, who beat Khazakhstan 2-1, while Michael O'Neill's hosts remain fifth of the six teams.
