Ottawa needs to unveil travel reopening plan

The European Union took a major step towards reopening its borders this week, agreeing to ease criteria needed for countries to be considered COVID-19 safe as well as allow fully vaccinated tourists into Europe.

The decision puts increased pressure on the Canadian government to start looking at lifting some travel restrictions currently in place. The National Airline Council of Canada (NACC), which represents Air Canada, WestJet, Air Transat and Jazz Aviation, is calling on the government to release a detailed travel restart plan, particularly as Canada’s \vaccination rollout ramps up.

Sean Speer, fellow in residence at the Public Policy Forum, says the government needs to come out with a plan “sooner rather than later.” On this episode of Crisis Management, he also explains why the government may be taking so long to release details on a potential travel reopening.
