Palace breaks silence on rumors that Meghan Markle, Prince Harry may move to Canada
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK following their six-week sabbatical, the bulk of which was spent quietly in Canada. For their first engagement of 2020, the couple paid a visit to Canada House in London to "thank them for the warm Canadian hospitality and support during their trip."
According to royal confidant Tom Bradby, the couple is considering options about where to raise baby Archie in the future, which may include walking away from public life.
"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are rumored to be looking at the option of relocating to the country for a significant portion of the year and sources say they may relinquish their HRH titles in the future," the Daily Mail reported on Tuesday.
However, Buckingham Palace recently responded to the allegations, telling the publication that the rumors are "nothing but speculation," adding that Meghan and Harry will ramp up their royal duties in the coming weeks.
The Sun first reported the news, explaining that Canada "has replaced an African state as the number one option for the couple to make their semi-permanent base outside of the UK." The report clarified that while nothing has been finalized, Meghan and Harry will discuss their plans with senior royals like Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles soon.
"It is true that Harry and Meghan will spend a fair amount of time in Canada over the next couple of months and possibly going forward too," an insider told the Sun. “Right now they are starting talks with their family about their plans for the future. Those conversations are at a very early stage."
"There is a very careful and serious process to go through which they are going to respect. But it is clear they are on a different and unique path, and they are very much thinking about what the future looks like for them.”
Canada holds a special place in the couple's heart: Meghan lived in Canada for seven years during her time on the show "Suits" and it was also the center of their relationship early on.
Their visit to Vancouver Island over the holidays was quiet and welcomed.
“They very much enjoyed their time over Christmas and New Year where they weren’t pictured once and were left alone," the source continued to the Sun.
