If you’re a parent, chances are you know the following feelings all too well: sleepless nights, never-ending days and weeks where the hours all seem to blend together. There’s nothing quite like the sound of a crying baby to wake you up at 2 a.m., and no feeling like the sense of success when said baby peacefully falls back to sleep again. But for most parents, the latter isn’t always so easy.

But one woman from Belleville, Mich., shared a sleeping baby hack on Facebook after offering to watch her sister’s baby while she is in hospital. Lauren Session was babysitting her niece after working a 12 hour shift, and after numerous attempts to get the infant back to sleep she recalled an old trick she used on her own daughter.

“I hadn’t taken care of a baby in almost five years and this baby was very fussy because I believe she was missing her mother,” Session told Caters News. “I had tried numerous of things but nothing seemed to work… I then remembered when my daughter was a baby and had a fussy moment, I would go into the bathroom and run the bathtub water and that would soothe her.”

The white noise combined with the gentle rocking motion while holding the baby in a football position, helped to lull the infant into a quiet, peaceful sleep.

Since sharing the video on Facebook, Session has received a ton of positive feedback. With almost 3.5 million views, 7,800 likes and 4,800 comments, her sleeping trick is proving popular among parents on social media.

The majority of comments are people tagging friends in the post to share the parenting hack. While other commenters offer environmentally friendly alternatives to running bathwater.

Regardless of which method her audience uses, Session is just happy to help parents worldwide catch up on some much-needed zzzs.

“I’m grateful and I’m so happy I could share my story with people all over the world and help because that’s what I love doing.”
