Patrick Dempsey seems unbothered by recent alleged stories of his past resurfacing.

On Tuesday, the 55-year-old former Grey’s Anatomy actor, who portrayed Dr. Derek Shepherd, a.k.a. McDreamy, on the ABC medical drama for a decade, posted a selfie on Instagram from the open road. In the photo, Patrick wore biking attire, including a dark helmet and mirrored sunglasses. With a stunning view of the ocean in the background, he smiled and snapped the picture.

“Training on the coast of Maine for the 2021 Dempsey Challenge presented by @amgenbiotech! Where are you training today?” he captioned it. “There is still time to register for the Local Challenge in Lewiston, Maine or the Global Challenge and join us from anywhere in the world! Are you #UpForTheChallenge?”

Ahead of the weekend, Patrick was logging a few more miles in preparation for the 2021 Dempsey Challenge, which takes place on September 25 and September 26. The annual fundraising event encourages folks to run, walk or cycle to help raise $1.5 million for the Dempsey Center, which provides treatment to cancer patients.

Patrick's recent Instagram post comes a few days after The Hollywood Reporter released an excerpt from the upcoming tell-all book How to Save a Life: The Inside Story of Grey’s Anatomy by Entertainment Weekly’s Lynette Rice. In chapter eight, the author delves deeper into Patrick’s unexpected exit at the end of season 11. Speaking with Grey's cast and crew members, Lynette shares various perspectives about why Patrick was allegedly written off the show and how it went down.

According to executive producer James D. Parriott, he was brought in by series creator Shonda Rhimes to help with “HR issues” happening behind the scenes.

“He [Patrick] sort of was terrorizing the set. Some cast members had all sorts of PTSD with him. He had this hold on the set where he knew he could stop production and scare people,” James claimed in the book. “The network and studio came down and we had sessions with them. I think he was just done with the show. He didn’t like the inconvenience of coming in every day and working. He and Shonda were at each other’s throats."

Patrick allegedly admitted to having a difficult time keeping up with a schedule that needed him on set for “10 months, 15 hours a day” for 11 years. As fans know, Patrick's character, McDreamy, ultimately died after getting hit by a truck. That said, when Patrick returned to Grey’s Anatomy last year as a guest star, he enjoyed the experience so much, he didn't knock the idea of coming back again.

"Who knows? Never say never with this show, right?" he told Variety when asked about McDreamy making another cameo. "I'm glad we did it this year. And [showrunner] Krista Vernoff did a fantastic job telling the story."
